Your Lack of Planning Will Become a Loved One's Crisis

Updated: 2 days ago

The one undisputed statistic: everyone will die. Yep, a great way to start off your morning, sorry! But we're in it now, so listen good. There are many things you can do to plan ahead. These items have to be done, so don't leave them to your loved ones to figure out. Let's talk about a few that will help your loved ones the most.

Will & End of Life documents

Nothing new! But it's a real mess when you haven't done anything. If you have a complex financial situation, a lawyer is your best bet. If your home and retirement account are your primary assets, online software may be a more affordable option. If you are completing a will, then go ahead and add the other main end of life docs: Financial Power of Attorney, Health Power of Attorney, Funeral Wishes.

Beneficiaries

Go to your bank, financial planner, employer, etc. to add beneficiaries to your cash assets: bank accounts, retirement accounts, investments, life insurance policies. Don't let your money get held up in court, or worse, given to the wrong person because the beneficiary wasn't updated.

Pre-Pay Your Funeral Costs

At a minimum, you should put your funeral wishes in writing. Then there is a blueprint for your loved ones to follow. I suggest that you take the next step to pre-pay your funeral costs. From a financial aspect, it will cost less today and you can lock in pricing. If you can't pay the full cost up front, funeral homes have a variety of options for payment plans. From an emotional aspect, you will save your loved ones time and possible conflict.

Make sure you leave behind memories and not chaos! If you have done all of the above items, then I'm sure you are keeping these documents in our kit, thank you! Email us with any questions or comments at support@masterminddocs.com.
